Chelsea beat Sunderland – Well done Torres… and Rafa

Fernando Torres scored a brace as Rafa Benitez’s Chelsea side claimed their first Premier League win under the Spaniard.

Fernando Torres should have put Chelsea ahead in the first 10 minutes, when Hazard sent a cross in which found the Sunderland defenders head, only to bounce off their other defender and land at Torres’ feet, only for the keeper to clear up their mess.

Eleven minutes in, Chelsea took the lead through a nicely taken Fernando Torres Volley from a tidy Hazard cross.

We then doubled our lead on the stroke of half-time from the penalty spot. Fernando Torres opting to take the penalty, after Ramires was unnecessarily taken down in the corner of the box.

Juan Mata added a third 4 minutes into the second half, after Fernando Torres thundering strike hit the crossbar and bounced to the Spanish midfielder to slot home past Simon Mignolet in goal.

Adam Johnson pulled one back in the 66th minute but failed to turn possession into goals after dominating in spells.

I fear the game could’ve gone differently had we not scored that penalty on the stroke of half-time but thoroughly deserved our win.

Torres looked awesome today, playing with confidence and was unlucky not to score 4 or 5! Fernando has taken a lot of stick recently but you can’t fault today’s performance. Well done Nando.

I won’t be complimenting Rafa much, he’s still just a ‘fat Spanish waiter’ to me, but credit where credit is due. Well done…

Well done? Two wins in a row. Wins over a Danish squad and a side that has taken 6 out of a posible 30 points over their last 10 matches. It’s great that we have scored 9 goals against this opposition, yet we have conceded against both of these lesser sides. I still refuse to give credit until we win against worthy opponents and take a trophy. Chelsea is 0/3 as of yet.
