Chelsea bid for striker rejected but they sign new keeper-he is 13

Roman Abramovich may come back with a bigger offer for the 22-year old Montenegrin striker Stevan Jovetic. Italian side Fiorentina have turned down Chelsea’s offer of £20 million, according to the Daily Star.

Chelsea need to replace Drogba and Kalou and give support and competition to newly confident Fernando Torres. Hulk will hopefully be joining Chelsea soon but often plays as a winger. Jovetic plays as a second striker but still managed 14 league goals from 27 games last season.

His technical ability and flair, along with his dribbling skills have drawn comparisons to Roberto Baggio. He could make the ideal partner for Torres, who continued his return to form with a brilliant double against Ireland in Euro 2012.

Jovetic still has four years on his contract so the Italian club are in a strong negotiating position. It all depends on how determined Chelsea are, and they seem to be very determined at the minute.

One for the future is Jared Thompson. The 13-year old goalkeeper has been signed from Swindon, and could earn Swindon up to £3 million with add-ons. His parents posted on Facebook “We would like to take this opportunity in congratulating Jared for this momentous, once in a lifetime achievement.”

I am not sure if he will be ready in time to take over directly from Petr Cech. The 30-year old has recently signed on for another four years at Stamford Bridge, so you never know. Cech has not had a great Euro 2012 so far but can go on to the latter stages if the Czech Republic if they avoid defeat to Poland and Greece fail to beat Russia.
