Chelsea seems to be realizing some of their targets early enough even before the transfer window opens on July 1. Mourinho has made it clear that he has only 4 major signings to make for the summer, as he is still keen on holding on to the current squad that won him the EPL. A (defensive) midfielder is part of the major signings, and their search might just be coming to an end as one of their targets is ready to leave his current club.
“Our talks came to the conclusion that he won’t extend his contract and will leave in the summer.”
These were the words of Dortmund’s sporting director, Michael Zorc concerning İlkay Gündoğan’s future in the Bundesliga outfit. The German midfielder is on his way out of the club by next summer, probably into the waiting arms of the Stamford bridge owners.
Chelsea is preparing a deal worth 150,000 pounds per week for the Germany international. Gundogan has been key in the midfield of Dortmund this season. The defensive midfielder has made 18 league appearances and scored thrice. And with Mourinho looking for a pairing partner for Matic, Gundogan comes as the very perfect choice. The player who has been described by coach Jurgen Klopp as an intelligent and complete midfielder with numerous strengths will be perfect for the EPL winners. His creativity, coupled with his strength and special ability to throw complete passes and also defend makes him a perfect mould for Mourinho. The midfielder who has often been compared with Michael Carrick for his long shooting style and mobility awaits a final move from Chelsea in order to guarantee a transfer. Mourinho had wanted to sign the 24 years old during his time at Real Madrid, and won’t want to miss out on another opportunity to finally have him in his possession.
