Chelsea are close to beating PSG, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United to the signing of high rated AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma according to reports from the Italian media.

According to the reports, the 16-year-old keeper has been on the radar of many Europe clubs with several scouts reportedly watching him but it is Chelsea who seem to have won the race for the player’s signature.

Gianluigi Donnarumma who has already been given the tag of the “new Gianluigi Buffon” will be joining Chelsea on a free transfer if the reports are anything to go by as he is yet to sign a professional contract with Milan but Chelsea will have to pay a compensation fee to Milan as training grant. A fee that will be decided upon by a tribunal.

The player is highly rated by Milan manager and former manager Filippo Inzaghi. Inzaghi ensured Donnarumma was made the first choice goalkeeper for the reserve team last season and is in line to become Milan’s third choice goalkeeper next season should he remain with Milan.

Although is just 16 years old, reports already claim Chelsea want him at the Stamford Bridge not as a reserve team keeper but as a potential keeper with Chelsea’s first team.
