Chelsea Close To First Summer Signing – £60,000-A-Week Star On The Way

Last season was definitely an excess of season for Barcelona as they had to let go of some of their players to accommodate new signings. Key of them went to the EPL, Alexis departed for Arsenal, Cesc chose Chelsea ahead of an Emirates return, and Cameroon international, Alex Song was loaned to West Ham. And as the season wraps up, Song wouldn’t be staying on at West Ham, rather will he be returning to Camp Nou, as he is deemed excess and definitely won’t have a place in the team. Chelsea has seen him as a great backup in their midfield, as he is still a player to reckon with in the defensive midfield position. The former Arsenal player has made 25 appearances in the EPL this season.

Due to his 9 years at the Emirates, Alex meets the Champions League homegrown status requirements, and Chelsea could get him for 6 million pounds as he comes with such added advantage. Although far from a prospective starter, he is no doubt better option than Mikel Obi who has only managed 16 League appearances this season.  Song will no doubt come handy in case of Matic’s absence.

The 27 year-old Cameroon international is also being targeted by Manchester City. Africa’s footballer of the year, Yaya Toure is heading towards the exit by season ending, and the club sees Song as a replacement. San Siro sides, AC and Inter Milan are also interested in recruiting the services of the midfielder, but his preference remains the English Premier League, as it seems he is more comfortable in England.

It is said that Barcelona will probably sell him for 9 million pounds, even though he was acquired for 15 million 3 seasons ago. He made 65 appearances for the Catalunya side, and that might be all for him as far as Barcelona is concerned. Chelsea will make decisions as regards getting the strong midfield player in the coming days.
