Raul Meireles was signed at the 11th hour last night, literally, on a four year contract from Liverpool for a fee believed to be in the region of £12million. That makes three transfer windows in a row now that the two clubs have done business. Quite remarkable!
Three other players left the club yesterday, all on loan deals and the first of those was Gael Kakuta who moved to Bolton Wanderers.
Kakuta has joined on a four month loan deal which takes him up to the 1 January, which is when the next transfer window opens for business.
The second player on the move yesterday was defender Patrick van Aanholt who has also moved north, but he has gone on a season long loan deal to Wigan Athletic. He like Kakuta has been loaned out to gain some much needed Premier League experience.
The final player to leave Stamford Bridge late last night was Yossi Benayoun. He had been rumoured to be involved in the Meireles deal earlier in the week, but he eventually moved across the Capital and will spend the rest of the season at Arsenal.
So that’s about it for now. No Modric. No Sneijder, but we do have Raul Meireles and we all wish him well for the future.
