It seems that the fully expected Chelsea move for Bolton’s Gary Cahill is set to fall by the wayside, due to the inordinate demands of the England international for his first contract at Stamford Bridge.
Bolton have agreed a £7million fee for Cahill, which is a bit much forsomeone with just six months left on his contract, but the player himself has demanded a massive £120,000 a week while the Blues are only willing to pay £70,000 a week in todays financial climate, and are waiting for Cahill to reduce his demands before proceeding.
But with such a big difference of opinion, there is little hope of a compromise and it looks like other clubs may now come in with an improved offer for Cahill (like Liverpool?).
Owen Coyle said yesterday: “Nothing has progressed as far as it has with Chelsea and we haven’t agreed a fee with any other club. But we’ve had enquiries – you do for any player.” so the longer Chelsea delay the more likely it is to allow another club to move in.
Are Chelsea now going to lose their much-needed solid defender to one of their rivals?
