Chelsea Edges Closer To First Summer Signing In £20m Deal

According to French paper, Le 10 Sport Chelsea are edging closer to signing long term target Olympic Marseille’s midfielder Florian Thauvin. Thauvin has been linked to Chelsea so many times in the last three transfer windows. Before he left Lille for Marseille in 2013, Chelsea were reportedly close to signing him but with the transfer window coming up and Oscar, Ramires and maybe Willian likely to leave, it is believed Jose Mourinho is keen on signing the Frenchman.

Thauvin who has scored 5 goals in 35 games for Marseille in all competition this season is one of the attacking players Jose Mourinho has earmarked for purchase once the summer transfer window opens.

Although Le 10 Sport believes Chelsea are ahead of the chasing pack for the signature of the Frenchman, Liverpool and Arsenal are also reportedly keen on the player. With Wenger interested, it will be a lot difficult for Chelsea to sign the player in my opinion. This is because as we all know, Wenger has a strong pull when it comes to French players. Chelsea can however beat Arsenal to his signing if Jose Mourinho really wants him by offering more wages something we all know Wenger is very much unlikely to offer.

Thauvin is reportedly available for £20m. He can play on both sides of the wing and as a box to box midfielder.
