Raul Meireles is one of the few Chelsea players still participating in Euro 2012. His performances for Portugal, who are hot favourites to lose to Spain according to www.oddswinner.com, and for Chelsea last season, have caused Napoli to target his services.
Napoli want to improve on their position in Serie A after they were pipped to the Champion’s league positions last time. They are on the verge of selling one of their star players, the Argentinean forward Ezequiel Lavezzi, to Paris Saint-Germain for around £20 million.
Walter Mazzarri the manager, has identified his midfield as the weak point in his team. Meireles is the man he has chosen to give Napoli more strength in the middle, Talksport reports. The Italian club are preparing a bid thought to be around £8 million for the 29-year old Portuguese international.
Meireles has three years left on his contract with the blues, but is believed to have joined from Liverpool because Andres Villas-Boas was the coach. Now he might consider moving on but, after picking up an FA cup and Champion’s league winner’s medal, why would he?
I am sure Chelsea would consider including the midfielder in a deal that brought Uruguayan striker Edison Cavani to Stamford Bridge, but Napoli are determined to hold on to Cavani. The 25-year old has scored 49 league goals in his 68 games for the club and is also being targeted by Manchester City.
