Chelsea Fail In Final £40M Bid For Modric

Luka Modric to Chelsea has been talked about more this summer than Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona, and today we are closing the door on the whole thing. That is until the transfer window opens again in just 121 days time and all the rumours will start all over again!

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp told Sky Sports News last night that Chelsea had bid for the Croatian midfielder on deadline day. He said, “The chairman stood firm. I think £40million was apparently offered. It is a big offer to turn down, that’s for sure.”

So there we go. A £40million bid was made, but ultimately even that was not enough to tempt Spurs to sell. The winter transfer window opens on 1 January and of course Chelsea will more than likely try again to secure the services of Luka Modric. That will of course all depend on how the season is going for Andre Villas-Boas and his men, but if I was a betting man I wouldn’t bet against Roman Abramovich trying again would you?
