Chelsea Fail To Land Midfield Star

Chelsea have had a bid rejected in the last 24 hours for a
midfielder player. It was not Luka Modric, neither was it Samir Nasri, but according to reports in today’s Daily Mail it was for Valencia starlet Juan Mata.

Mata has long been a target for Arsenal, and even Spurs and Liverpool have expressed an interest in singing him at some point this summer. Roman Abramovich made an offer of £22million yesterday, with £18million being offered as a down payment and a further £4million to be paid at a later date, but it was turned down by the Spanish club.

According to the Daily Mail Roman Abramovich is so desperate to secure the services of Mata he is prepared to fly out to Spain and offer a extra £4million.

Arsenal have already had a bid of £22million turned down for Mata, so the extra £4million that Chelsea are prepared to offer could well be enough to seal the deal. Arsenal are not prepared to increase their offer and Spurs need to sell players before they can buy, so it looks as though the door could be wide open for Chelsea to secure the services of Mata.
