Chelsea fringe players win 4-0 and make Ancelotti proud

The Carling Cup victory over Bolton last night was a very pleasing experience for Chelsea fans, as not only did Chelsea keep their 100% home record for the season, but they also did in in style with some players that rarely get the chance to shine.

Joe Cole looks like he is back to his brilliant best already as he mesmerised the Bolton defence, and the two defenders returning from injury, Alex and Ferreira, both came through with flying colours.

Salomon Kalou got his third goal in a week to keep the pressure on Drogba and Anelka, before being taken off at half time as a precaution. His replacement Daniel Sturridge had a couple of chances to open his account for the Blues, but his first-game nerves seemed to affect him. I’m sure he will learn to relax in the future.

Deco and Drogba added another two in the second half to seal a very easy win, and Ancelotti was very pleased with game as a whole.

“The players that return after injury return very well,” Ancelotti said.

“Alex did well tonight; Ferreira did a very intelligent match. This means that it is a very good moment for us.

“The most important thing is to play well and win a game. Now it happened that we won with large results but that is not so important for us because the last three matches we have played very well.

“On the pitch the team maintains good control, good position defensively and offensively, and the most important thing for a team is to have a balance.”

Ancelotti was even pleased with the performance of Sturridge, and wished he could have scored to settle his nerves. “I’m disappointed for him that he didn’t score, but he played 60 minutes well for the team. I asked him to play for the team, I didn’t ask him to score and he did what I asked. For me it is not important that he did not score because Kalou and Malouda did. I am happy for his work on the pitch.”

All-in-all, a pleasant night for the Chelsea team, but not so good for Gary Megson, who realises that he will now have to face Chelsea’s first team this Saturday as well, but he will be looking for his team to put this poor performance behind them.

“I am pleased about that to be perfectly honest because we have got to put on a performance now,” said Megson, “Our team will be different, not just in personnel but I hope in approach.”

Don’t count on the result being any different though Gary!
