Chelsea get some good news at last!

Good news come one after another. After Chelsea’s emphatic 3-0 home win against Wolves, long-term injury player Michael Essien looks set to return to action very soon.

Essien, 28, suffered from an anterior cruciate ligament injury during Chelsea’s pre-season friendlies in July. Medical staff at Stamford Bridge once feared for his career for it was his second time injuring his ligament. Even Essien himself have doubts about his future, which was in jeopardy as the club held their breath to await medical reports. Thankfully, the club announced that Essien has returned to light training 2 days ago and is set to return to action soon.

Essien’s recovery certainly brought about much relief to Andre Villas-Boas. Often deployed in the defensive midfielder position, Essien had been an integral part of Chelsea’s midfield since the Mourinho era. During his absense, the Blues’ midfield had been looking out-of-sorts in recent weeks and his supposed replacement, John Obi Mikel, has been under fire for a string of poor performances.

His return would add a considerable amount of steel to the Chelsea midfield and defence. Being known for being a tough tackler with a no-nonsense style of play, his presense will certainly help Chelsea in a long way in terms of holding position and gaining control of the midfield.

Besides that, Essien’s return could also mean that Frank Lampard can roam around more freely than before, and aid the Chelsea strikeforce in attacking forays. Due to Essien’s absence, Lampard played a more restricted figure and was not exactly at his best. Essien’s replacement, John Obi Mikel, has not done a good job in controlling the midfield. This was evident in the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool, when he was dispossessed by Charlie Adam which gifted Liverpool their opening goal, scored by Maxi Rodriguez.

Despite being on the road to recovery, it is unlikely to see Essien figuring in the starting line-up till at least late next month. Due to the fragility of his knee, he will most likely start out slowly before even starting for the first-team. In the meantime, let us pray for his recovery and hope that Chelsea will get to enjoy his services soon! We really need his services and this piece of news would certainly boost our chances of challenging for the title.

Chelsea fans, the good old days could be returning again!

Let’s sell him at the end of this season, we now have better, fitter and younger options in that position.
