Chelsea Gets Injury BOOST Ahead Of Weekend Clash

Chelsea eased past Derby County in the quarter final of the Capital One cup. It was an expected wins for the Blues over the Championship side with goals from Eden Hazard, Filipe Luis and Andre Schurrle guaranteeing the London outfit a place in the last four of the cup competition.

It was however a dark night for young budding central defender Kurt Zouma who was knocked out of consciousness by his own team mate and goal keeper. Petr Cech was quick off his line to clear a dangerous cross when he caught the young French defender who was already up in the air with his own head.

It was a clash of head and Zouma who had the greater impact fell unconscious on the turf. His team mates and the club doctor Eva Carneiro all responded immediately to help the player but what was appalling was the manner the stretcher-bearing stewards responded to the call to bring in the stretcher.

Petr Cech who was the closest player to the scene of accident has recalled hearing the doctor calling out for stretcher over the radio yet there was no one steward in sight bringing the stretcher.

Eva was saying at least three times prior to that through the radio: Bring the stretcher,” Cech said.

We could hear it. I think that was why everyone was upset with the call. We heard: Bring the stretchers; Bring the stretchers; and:

Bring the stretchers. But nobody was coming. I think thats why the players got involved. Overall I think the situation was handled well, everybody did the right thing. The main objective was to make sure the player was safe and he is safe.

Even when they finally emerged, it took the intervention of Ceasar Azpillicueta and Cesc Fabregas to get them to hurry up. Jose Mourinho also spoke of his disappointment at the length of time it took the bearer to get to the pitch but Zouma came through the ordeal all clear and is doing fine.

Zouma’s injury was not as serious as initially feared. He was not as badly hurt as initially thought and manager Jose Mourinho has spoken of the player’s state after the game.

He’s fine, we don`t think he needs hospital treatment, he was a bit dizzy and had some blood in his mouth.” Jose Mourinho said when quizzed about the player after the game.

The player was also shown on the bench already on his feet with team mates after the game. Mourinho also went on to suggest the French man could be available for selection for the trip to the Britania against Stoke City on Monday.

Zouma joined Chelsea this summer though he signed for the club earlier in the winter transfer window. Jose Mourinho has started giving the youngster the opportunity to develop and establish himself at the club and Zouma have shown his good qualities in all of his appearances for the club.

The absence of Gary Cahill for the Derby game meant he was paired with John Terry at the heart of the defence. He had shown composure and looked comfortable all night before the clash of heads with Cech.

Mourinho will hope the player recovers on time and stays fit even as the club heads into the crucial and hectic Christmas season.
