Chelsea look set to battle it out with Arsenal and Liverpool for Newcastle’s current top goalscorer, Demba Ba, as Chelsea look to bolster their attacking options in January.
Fernando Torres has eased the urgency for new striking options this week, with 4 goals in 2 games, but with Daniel Sturridge expecting to move to Liverpool in January, Chelsea will need to back-up their striking options.
Chelsea have been linked with multiple big names over the past months, with Radamel Falcao widely expected to come in to replace Torres. These rumours have been silenced this week with Torres seeming to return to form.
Falcao has a £48million release clause, whereas Demba Ba has a much more reasonable clause of £7million. Demba Ba also has the advantage of having adapted to the physicality of the Premier League.
Ba has scored 10 goals already this season, in a struggling Newcastle side that currently sit 14th in the PL. Newcastle had been trying to tie up a new contract with the Senegal striker, in the fear of losing their star asset for such a small fee.
Demba reportedly turned down their offer, asking for a weekly wage of £70k, and the Magpies now look resigned to losing him. Chelsea would be willing to match those demands, with offering the player the chance to win trophies.
I would like to see Chelsea revert back to playing two strikers, with Demba Ba, Torres and Falcao all playing their fair share of games. Torres still has to prove his worth to the Chelsea team, whereas the other two are key players for their respective teams. The Manchester teams rotate four strong forwards, why cant we rotate three?
so true, we need all these three asap if we are really serious to challenge Manchester teams and the rest of the top big clubs across europe..
Indeed Demba ba is needed even more than falcao but signing the both strikers will be an idea thing to do.
