Chelsea join race to sign Robin Van Persie

The Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is determined to “do a Man City” on Arsenal by forcing them to sell Robin Van Persie next summer after he has refused to sign a new contract at the Emirates.

Reports are saying that Chelsea will challenge Man City by offering an astonomical wage to Van Persie to convince him not to sign the contract extension with Arsenal which is being reported as being set at 90,000 a week, with Arsenal refusing to break their wage structure to keep the Dutchman at the club.

When you think that Manuel Almunia is on 50,000 a week, perhaps Arsenal need to seriously consider changing their business sense or risk losing all their top players (if they have any left after Van Persie leaves!)

Fernando Torres reportedly earns more than 150,000 a week, and right now Van Persie is far more valyable to any club. How many Chelsea fans would happily swap Torres for Van Persie right now?

I think a bid of £40m in Jan or £28m in the summer or £20 next Jan or for free next summer would see RVP coming to us plus a £150kpw+ wage.

Hell no. Mercenary. I want players who wnt to play for the club, not the wages.
