Chelsea Misses Full-back Transfer. What Next?

Chelsea missed out on yet another transfer and the January transfer market is not even opened yet. Ajax’s full-back Gregory Van der Wiel was intensely wanted by Andres Villas-Boas who seems interested in changing things up a bit at Chelsea.

Even though interest was coming in for the 23-year-old full-back from both London clubs Chelsea and Arsenal, the Netherlands international seems now to be an almost certain Valencia footballer.

“The clubs are still negotiating, but I expect them to reach an agreement,” Van der Wiel told Eredivisie Live.

“I have already spoken with Valencia and have agreed terms. If everything goes according to plan, I will sign a five-year deal.”

Chelsea is expected to sell some of their players in January so extra income is expected to come in the club, and it’s well known that owner Roman Abramovic wants Chelsea back in the first place as soon as possible.

When he came to the club Villas-Boas had a project but with so little time elapsed it’s tough to have a clear image of what exactly wants the Portuguese manager to do.
