Chelsea now fighting Liverpool for top-class defender
24-year old Gregory van der Wiel is an attacking right back known for his fast and dangerous style of play. He has helped his club Ajax win the Dutch title twice and is looking for the next step up in his career. Chelsea and Liverpool have been tracking the player and a recent breakdown in a deal to take him to Valencia was good news for the Blues.
Now Real Madrid have shown an interest and van der Wiel has hinted that he might prefer a move to Madrid. His agent told Dutch sport paper Nusport “It is an absolutely top club, and Greg wants to go to a top club. It seems that the player will concentrate on helping Holland during Euro 2012 and is hoping that some good performances will help him to secure a dream contract.
Chelsea and Liverpool both need to sort out the manager situation, but if the player wants as big a club as possible, surely Chelsea have the advantage over Liverpool nowadays?
They have the advantage over Liverpool at the moment but it can all change instantly so if chelsea really want him then they should get him now.
