Chelsea Plan £30m Bid For £50,000-A-Week CB – Terry Replacement?

John Stones

Chelsea is reportedly making plans for current Everton defender, John Stones. The England international, who still has 3 years left on his contract with the Toffees is being seen as a potential summer signing by the special one. A bid of 30 million pounds is being prepared for the 20 years old.

With 19 Premier League appearances this season, his consistent splendid performance has been a major attracting factor, making big clubs keep an eye on him, with Spanish giants Barcelona reported to have had him on their transfer wish list before being hit by the transfer ban.  Since joining the folks at the Goodison Park 2 seasons ago from Barnsley, at just 3 million pounds,  he has made gone ahead to establish himself as a key member of the squad, featuring in 40 games ever since.

The versatile defender, who can play effectively well both as right back and as a central defender, is being seen as a long-term replacement for the ageing pair of John Terry and Ivanonic, considering his youth and strength.

The 4-time national team capped player will also come handy as back up, and may serve as good competition for the spots of the duo. He was once a subject of the Blues’ transfer a year ago, but the Toffees held on to him. Chelsea hopes to be able to convince them for his signature for 30 million pounds this time around.

The 20 years old only started professional football at youth level 4 years ago, but his rapid growth and knowledge of the game has turned him into one of the best potentials for any team’s defense line. His 2-year stint in the EPL has come with accolades, as he was mentioned in nominees’ list for the Golden Boy 2014 Award, despite injury woes that season. He is a player for the future, and will definitely be a good addition at Stamford bridge towards subsequent seasons.

  1. Chelsea Alan says

Out of the myriad of stories that will come out about players that Chelsea are about to buy during this close season, John Stones is one of the very few that would make sense. He is young and English and would cost a lot less than Real Madrid would charge for Verane. It is well known that Jose has previously described the young Frenchman as the best young Central Defender in the World. After Stones performances for Everton these last two seasons I am sure Jose may be changing his thoughts on that matter. Jose loves players who can play in more than one position and will see John Stones as a player to improve his existing squad for years to come.
