Chelsea Plan Move For £100,000-A-Week £25m Rated UCL Winner

According to reports in the Spanish media, Chelsea are set to put in a bid for Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao who is set to leave Real Madrid in the summer. The Portuguese has found first team football to hard come by this season.

The 27-year old defender is expected to leave Real Madrid this summer in search of regular first team football. Manchester United and Liverpool have both been linked to the player in the last three months but if you believe fichajes, Chelsea are very likely to beat the other clubs to his signature with a bid in the region of £10-15million reportedly being prepared for him.

Although his current contract will expire in the summer of 2019, Real Madrid are likely to sanction the transfer of the player away from the club as they try to get in money to make their usual big transfer moves.

Do Chelsea need the player? Not in my opinion. Chelsea already have Luis Filipe and Azipilicueta who both play the left back role which is the only role Fabio Coentrao plays. I do not see how Chelsea will sanction a move for another big left back especially as Luis Filipe is leaving the club due to lack of first team football. With Fabio Coentrao likely to want regular first team football, Chelsea are better off moving for someone versatile as replacement for Luis Filipe if he leaves the club.
