Chelsea Plan Move For Liverpool's Jordan Henderson

Jordan Henderson

According to reports, Henderson has turned down Liverpool’s offer of £80,000-a-week contract. A contract offer which if you believe reports in the English media, is Liverpool’s last offer for the former Sunderland player. this situation that has reportedly put Chelsea on red alert.

If these reports are true, it will further complicate Brendan Rodger’s problems at Liverpool as he is already struggling to get Raheem Sterling to put pen to paper on a new contract offer. Henderson, after a slow start to his Liverpool career, has grown to become of of Liverpool’s key players and should he leave, it will be a massive blow to Liverpool’s ongoing rebuilding process.

Henderson can be described as a manger’s dream. He will do a job no matter where he is asked to play. He’s an extremely versatile and very hardworking player who gives 100 percent no matter where he is asked to play, his attitude is exemplary. He has been asked to play a fair share of positions during his Liverpool career so far.

Does Chelsea need him?

The only reason I can see as to why Chelsea is interested in Henderson, is the fact that they need to increase the number of British players in their squad with the likes of John Terry almost gone, they need a quality English player, but in all honesty, Henderson isn’t up to Chelsea’s standard. With a midfield that parades the likes of Matic and Cesc Fabregas, he would find it easier to get a place on Chelsea’s bench than in the starting eleven. And with the blues’ early exit from the Champions League, they have to set their sight on some of the best Midfielders in Europe, a category Jordan Henderson doesn’t fall into.

After going 13 games unbeaten in all competition, Liverpool has now lost their last two games which has now put their chances of qualifying for the champions league next season in jeopardy. The manager reportedly called a meeting after training yesterday and the outcome of the said meeting never went well with the players according to reports. He reportedly accused several senior Liverpool players of not playing for him. This according to the report angered some of the players who angrily spoke up against their manager.

Liverpool’s season now rests on winning the FA Cup, with a quarter-final replay at Championship Blackburn on Wednesday night. And with the way their season has gone so far, it will not be too surprising if some of the players leave at the end of the season unless of course Rodgers is sacked which looks unlikely in my opinion.

One player who looks certain to leave Anfield at the end of the season is striker Mario Balotelli, it however remains to be seen which player they will buy to replace him especially as they are very likely to miss out on a place in the champions league next season unless a big miracle happens and either of United, Arsenal and City loses out – definitely not Chelsea.
