The summer transfer window is often referred to as the silly season. Bizarre transfers, disbelieving rumours, outrageous fees, and last-minute deals, the summer transfer window has it all, and one silly news is circulating at the moment. Liverpool rejected striker, Rickie Lambert is purportedly heading to the Stamford bridge by summer, after an offer has been made for him. The former Southampton player’s season debut at the Anfield has been very far from impressive. He has only found the back of the net twice in 22 league appearances for the Meryersiders ; far cry from a typical Chelsea second-choice striker, or 3rd, 4th, 5th-choice.
Although the player will be available for 5 million pounds, but he still doesn’t fit in the Chelsea calibre. With Drogba on his way out of the Stamford bridge, the blues are seeking a replacement. A striker who is able to act as third option. Lambert is physically strong, and can be dominating on the field of play. He was on great form while in the league one, and Championships with Southampton. He was instrumental in the consecutive promotions of the Saints, but right now at 33 years old, he has almost passed his prime. And signing for Chelsea won’t be a good choice, for both player and club.
Two years ago, Lambert would have been a great transfer option for Chelsea. He is known for his impressive penalty kicks, and has done well since been called up to the national England team, scoring on his first two matches for the country, and with 3 goals, and a couple of assists in 11 appearances. He almost left Liverpool, his childhood club, in January for Aston Villa in hopes for a chance to compete for regular football at Anfield, but he continually dipped in form. But now he is keen to leave, and Chelsea shouldn’t be his next stop.
