The Chelsea players received an amazing welcome on arrival in Japan, where they will attempt to win the World Club Cup, by adoring fans and media alike.
The stars flew into Narita International Airport in the early hours on Sunday, and we’re surrounded by excited, screaming fans, who just couldn’t wait to see the Chelsea boys in the flesh.
Frank Lampard was more than happy with the welcome, signing autographs and posing for photos after making his return to action in Saturdays win.
This was the first time Rafa has received a warm welcome from Chelsea fans, but it surely won’t be the last if he really can get the best out of Torres. Chelsea fans won’t be singing his name, but we will cheer on our team.
Chelsea will be vying to win the WCC without Oriol Romeu and captain John Terry, who are both back in London recovering from their respective injuries. Both are expected to be able to make a return in the Capitol One Cup against Leeds United next week.
Frank Lampard is expected to captain the Champions League winners in Japan, with Petr Cech as stand-in vice-captain.
Chelsea are hot-favourites to win the WCC and I hope they can win to boost the overall confidence of the team, who have struggled for form in recent weeks. This trophy will hopefully be the first of many this season…
