According to various reports in the Portuguese media, Chelsea may be signing Manchester United target Nicolas Gaitan in the summer transfer window which opens on the first of July.
The very versatile winger has been a key member of Benfica’s team ever since he joined the club in 2010. Aside being a key member for Benfica, he has been consistently called up for Argentina’s games and he is as a matter of fact one of the 30 man provisional squad for the 2015 copa America coming up in July.
He was reported on his way to Manchester United last summer in a deal said to be worth €35 million but nothing came out of the rumours and he remained with the Portuguese giants. Reports in Portugual claim United has moved on from the Gaitan saga after signing Memphis Depay.
According to A Bola ( the newspaper edition ), Chelsea and Valencia scouts have been watching the player and Chelsea in particular are keen on signing the player after been made aware of the player’s €35 million release clause.
Chelsea are reportedly going to be keeping close tabs on him at the Copa America.
However, as a Chelsea fan, I find this link surprising as the last thing Chelsea need in the summer is a winger. They already have Oscar, Willian, Hazard and Salah and Schurlle who are both on loan not to talk of new buy Juan Cuadrado. However, it could well mean the reports claiming Oscar, Willian, Ramires, Salah and Schurrle will all be sold in the summer to free up place for players Jose Mourinho likes.
