Chelsea preparing to sell stars in summer clearout

It is being reported that Chelsea plan to sell some of their stars in order to balance the books after spending £75 million on Fernando Torres and David Luiz.

Such Chelsea stars as Didier Drogba, John Obi Mikel, Florent Malouda, Yuri Zhirkov and Jose Bosingwa may be shown the exit in the summer.

A source at Chelsea said: “If things don’t improve there will be some notable casualties in the summer”.

Chelsea announced a £70 million pound loss this season and will be keen to be in the black in order to adhere to the new financial fair play rules being implemented by UEFA. And Roman Abramovich will also be keen to see the club pay for players from its own revenue streams rather than continually relying on him for cash.

One of Chelsea’s goals is also to bring more players through the youth ranks in order to make the average age of the squad younger and build a team for the future. Young players such as Bruma are part of this plan and the club management feel that they can’t have too many older players inhibiting the the development of the up and coming stars of tomorrow.
