Chelsea Rumours Deadline Day – Ribery & Pereira

While most clubs in the Premiership are busy today Chelsea have remained quiet so far, but with just over eight hours remaining before the transfer window closes there is still time to make one or two important signings.

Franck Ribery was mentioned in despatches last week as the club became frustrated in their attempts to sign Luka Modric. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has maintained all along that Spurs will not be selling the Croatian midfielder so attention has now turned to Ribery.

According to the Sun newspaper today a bid of £30million is being prepared, but the report also goes on to say that Bayern Munich will not accept less than £36million. Carlo Ancelotti tried to sign the Frenchman two years ago, but was turned off by the then quoted price of £88million.

With such a short time remaining in the transfer window it is highly unlikely that a deal will be done, that is if Chelsea are really interested in signing a injury prone 28 year-old!

Porto’s Alvaro Pereira is another target for the Blues, but last week an offer was turned down by the Portuguese club believed to be £16.5million. The Daily Mirror reports that a deal was agreed late last night with £20million believed to be the transfer fee, but figures in the press today say Porto are holding out for £26million.

Pereira’s agent is Alejandro Savichara and he is in London to try and secure a deal. He said, “This move would be a way to advance Alvaro’s career in sporting and financial terms. It is a unique opportunity. Right now he is waiting for the agreement that may arise. This is the reality.”

Pereira was part of the Uruguay squad that won the recent COPA America in Argentina, and if he does sign today he will join fellow countryman Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates in the Premier League.

We will endeavour to keep you posted on any possible arrivals at Stamford Bridge today so make sure you check back later here with us at Just Chelsea.
