Chelsea Scouts Line Up South American Defender

Chelsea are always on the lookout for young talented players and the latest name to crop up is teenage Chilean defender Igor Lichnovsky.

Lichnovsky, 17, is currently on the books of Universidad de Chile and has been for the last seven years, but has yet to make an appearance for the first team. He has already represented the Chilean Under-17’s and his performances have been attracting the attention of Chelsea’s South American scout Jorge Alvial.

Speaking to the Chilean website La Tercera Alvial said, “Igor is a very good player. I have been following him for some time and he is in the mind for Chelsea. He is one of the young players that I see that has good future, as he has good skills.”

Alvial went on to say, “The scouting on Lichnovsky has already been done for Chelsea, but we are going on step by step, being calm, having a look to all what this situation involves. We have to consider that the transfers from South America to England are difficult.”

Bringing South Americans to Chelsea is nothing new because earlier in the year Lucas Piazon, an attacking midfielder, was signed, and he is due to arrive at Stamford Bridge in January of next year.
