Chelsea Set To Activate Release Clause Of Highly Rated Benfica Forward

If reports emanating from A Bola, a Portuguese tabloid are anything to go by, then Chelsea are set to activate the £25 Million release clause of Benfica forward, Rodrigo.

The player, who has been sparkling form this season, is also on the transfer of Chelsea’s London rivals, Arsenal. The player, who also scored in last month’s Europa League match against Tottenham can offer a lot to a Chelsea team that has problem converting chances into goals.

The boss has sent scouts to watch the player and monitor his development this season; and it does seems the manager his pleased with reports received so far. The club could see as many as 3 strikers leave the Bridge at the end of the season, which could pave way for the signing of Rodrigo and one other world-class striker.

The £25 Million release clause may not pose any problem for the club especially as certain players are about to be placed on transfer market; and that means some money could be raised to fund a part of it. Chelsea are well aware of the FFP rule, which is already in full effect.

The manager does not seem to have much confidence in the ability of on loan striker, Romelu Lukaku, who has been banging in goals for Everton this season. The club may likely cash in on his sales, and use the proceeds to fund Rodrigo’s purchase at the end of the season. The Spanish Under-23 player may however, end up being used as backup to a more established striker that will join this summer.

However, until the deal is signed, sealed, and confirmed by the club’s officials; nothing is done yet, and should be treated as rumour at least for the time being. Do we need Rodrigo in the team? Of course, we do since our current set of strikers have not lived to expectations of the fans.

We have also been linked with the signing of Costa of Atletico this season. He is one player I rate so much, and his signature will further boost the team against next season.
