Judging by the report on the front page of Spanish newspaper AS sport, Chelsea fans should start anticipating as according to the paper, Jose Mourinho is very keen on signing Atletico Madrid’s attacking midfielder Koke.
According to the Spanish paper, Jose Mourinho has already started making underground works to sign the Spanish international. They however state Atletico Madrid will do everything within their power to fight off any attempt to sign any of the top players in the summer. According to AS, Koke is happy at Atletico Madrid, it however remains to be seen if the so called happiness is enough to make the player reject the temptation of signing for Chelsea.
AS states that Koke currently earns just 6 million euros per year which is another factor that will play into Chelsea’s hand as the Blues can afford to significantly increase his current earnings.
Further more, the paper claim Atletico may be disposed to selling the player if Chelsea lets them have Luis Filipe back. Chelsea only just bought Filipe from Atletico Madrid in the summer in a deal believed to be worth £15.8 million. Recent reports has it that Filipe is already considering leaving Chelsea at the end of the season and will seriously consider going back to Atletico Madrid. This is so because the Brazilian has not seen much game time at Chelsea ever since join.
With all these, it is safe to assume Chelsea has a strong chance of signing Koke in the summer. First, the Blues can afford to tempt the player with a big wage offer, secondly, considering Filipe is not a regular for Chelsea and there have been reports of the blues wanting to sign West Ham’s Aaron Cresswell who is also a left-back, I do not see why Chelsea will find it difficult to let Filipe go if it means they will get Koke in exchange.
