Chelsea Set To COMPLETE 2nd Signing As Agent Flies To London To Finalise £25m Deal

Nicolas-Gaitan

With doubts surrounding Sterling’s future at Liverpool, and a move to Chelsea seems likely, but not guaranteed, the team are reportedly looking at Benfica’s winger and attacking midfielder, Nicolas Gaitan as an option. The Argentina international has spent five seasons with the Portuguese giants, and it looks like this is his last season with the side. As the norm is with most Primeira Liga sides, the best players are being sold in order to maintain a worthy financial status every now and then, hence the 27 year-old Nicolas Gaitan, who was a massive contributor to Benfica’s title win this season is getting sold.

And it has been reported that his agents, Luis Filipe Vieira and Jorge Mendes are currently in England to broker a deal with either Chelsea or Manchester United over the player’s transfer. And with Mourinho being in cordial relationship with the Portuguese super agent, a move to the Stamford bridge might work out. Keen competitors, Manchester United once failed to actualize a transfer for  Gaitan back in January, and it doesn’t seem they are favorites this time around either. Although he has a contract with Benfica till 2018, but once the 25 million Euros in buyout clause are met, he is free to leave Portugal.

He has also been linked with Valencia. Due to his splendid performance, the 9-time capped Argentina has earned himself a call-up as part of the Copa America squad for the national team. Primarily a left footer, but he can also play at the right wing and all forward roles. With his ability, linking up with Costa wouldn’t be an issue, and if he gets signed, it will sure lead to a great attack in the Chelsea team. Although Chelsea already have wingers like Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Cuadrado and on-loan Salah, but they wouldn’t mind getting him if the Sterling move falls through.
