Chelsea set to confirm highly rated Brazilian forward
Chelsea have been in contact with Taison Freda for some weeks, and are expected to confirm his signature this month.
The Metalist Kharkiv forward had been invited to watch Chelsea’s 0-0 stalemate with Fulham in November, and had a meeting with Roman Abramovich about a possible move.
He also reacquainted himself with old pal Oscar, who he played alongside at Brazilian side Internacional.
The Brazilian pair are keen to play together again, with Taison saying: ‘I went to England some weeks ago, just to take a look. I talked to the president.
‘I see Oscar, who I played alongside at Internacional, and I want to play with him again.’
His agent also made a statement refusing to rule out a move away from Ukraine, adding: “The club want him to stay, but there are many things coming.”
Freda is keen to showcase his talents at Chelsea, but we may have a problem acquiring a work permit for the Brazilian. He is yet to be capped by his home nation, and Chelsea would need to apply for a permit on the grounds of ‘exceptional talent’.
I believe the player would fit in well at Chelsea, but he may struggle for first-team opportunities when Victor Moses returns from African Nations duty. At the same time he could be a huge hit and Moses or Fernando Torres could miss out, with the 24 year-old playing as a striker for Metalist. How do you see it?
