Chelsea Set To Hijack Liverpool's £30m Move

Chelsea are reportedly set to hijack Liverpool’s move for Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke according to daily mirror. This will not be the first time Benteke is being linked with a move to the blues as two summers ago when he was involved in contractual impasse with Villa, he was reportedly a target for the then Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez.

With Drogba likely to leave the club this summer and with the injury situation of Diego Costa and Loic Remy needing careful management, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is said to be in the market in search of a striker who is not only capable of acting as back up for Diego Costa in Chelsea’s first team but as well as capable of replacing him in the first team.

Despite Benteke reportedly on his way to Liverpool, it is generally believed that a bid of at least £30m will swing the pendulum in Chelsea’s favour and with Benteke rediscovering his form to further prove his form with Villa in the last two years wasn’t a fluke, Chelsea could be having a very good and reliable second/first choice striker in him.

His ability to hold up play and his aerial powress means Jose Mourinho will have a reliable plan B when plan A ( Costa ) doesn’t work. The big Belgian is reportedly on a £60,000 a week wage at Villa which means Chelsea will not have to be worried about wages an a little increment on his current contract is all thats needed.

A great advantage Chelsea have over Liverpool is the fact that the blues have a team that is able to contest for the little in both Europe and in England while Liverpool on the other hand will have to go through another rebuilding process and do not have Champions league football to offer.
