Chelsea Set To Trigger Release Clause Of Bundesliga Defender

Antonio Rudiger

Credible reports confirm that the newly-crowned EPL Champions are interested in the signing of VfB Stuttgart’s centre back, Antonio Rudiger for the summer transfer window. The 22 year-old is said to be a Mourinho’s choice, and the pensioners seem ready to do all they can to win the battle for his signature. They face stiff competitions from top clubs in Europe for his services, most especially West Ham and Monaco.

Although the Germany international who spent his teenage years in the club’s academy, missed part of the season due to injury, but his performances in the 19 league games he featured in this season helped put VfB Stuttgart just 2 steps above the relegation zone at the end of the season. He has a contract with the club until 2017, but it is likely that he departs if Chelsea agrees to meet his buyout clause of 7.1 million pounds.

Mourinho has made public his plans of signing a central defender this summer, who will be a replacement and backup for skipper John Terry who is likely to hang up the boots at the end of the coming season. And with Antonio Rudiger’s qualities, he is seen as one of the options. Arms will be folded to see if he will eventually get signed.
