Teenage Valencia defender, Jose Gaya has been a reliable left back for the La Liga side this season. His performances for the club this season have been overwhelming. Just 19, but he has appeared 33 times already this season for the Spanish outfits, compared to his last season’s lone appearance. His confidence level has risen, and he has been a defender to reckon with this season in the La Liga. Gaya’s stellar recent performances have made him attract bids from all over Europe, with Arsenal, Real Madrid and Chelsea topping the list.
Chelsea has seen him as a potential replacement for left back Filipe Luis, who is on his way out of the club come summer, probably back to Atletico Madrid after having failed to live up to high expectations. However, Jose Gaya doesn’t want to leave Valencia yet. He is beginning to enjoy first-team action, and he doesn’t seem ready to head to another club for spot’s competition. A product of the Valencia youth academies, and now a regular member of the side. His £13million buyout clause wouldn’t be a problem for these interested clubs to activate, this is despite the fact that he only just signed a new deal with Valencia.
The title holders of the EPL are looking forward to doing better at the continental level come next season, and Gaya will serve as a back up for the team’s converted left back, César Azpilicueta. Mourinho has stressed the need for increased all-round quality if the team is to win more by the coming campaign.
We can’t say Luiz did not live to expectations. He was never given chance to show what he could because Mourinho didn’t want to tamper with his already stable back four. From the little time he was given chance, he had very good outings.
