Chelsea target long-term John Terry replacement

Chelsea are reportedly targeting Montpellier Defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa in January, to eventually replace the ageing John Terry.

The French international has been a long-term target for Chelsea-rivals Arsenal, who had been expected to sign the defender, but are now expected to lose out to their London counter-parts.

The Montpellier captain is played mainly at centre-back, but is known to play anywhere across the back-four.

According to French TV channel Canal+, representatives of the Stamford Bridge club were present to watch Yanga-Mbiwa during his side’s win over AC Ajaccio on Saturday night.

Despite the Blues having reliable centre-backs in the form of David Luiz, Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic, the Champions League champions are still keen on signing the Montpellier ace.

The 23 year-old is believed to exhibit the same leadership skills that current Chelsea skipper John Terry possesses, and could prove to be a vital addition to the squad.

The Central African started his career at Montpellier, making his debut at the the tender age of 17. He has since captained the side to the Ligue 1 title, and made his debut for the France national team.

I can’t help but enjoy the thought of stealing Arsene Wenger’s targets, especially when they turn out like Juan Mata. Yanga-Mbiwa looks to be a solid defender, whose versatility can only be a boost. It is no secret that John Terry is towards the end f his career, and the African could be the answer.

Chelsea has some of the very best young players in the world, but we just keep buying and buying more and more. What about the ones we already have? Don’t they deserve a chance?! Its sooo unfair!! I can almost say with certainty that we won’t see the likes of Courtois, Van Aanholt, Bruma, Gordon, McEachren, Lukaku etc, become legends at Chelsea! We’ll just develop them for some other club. Every time a new young player has some good games Chelsea wants to buy them! Such bad management of resources! Can’t believe it!

chelsea instead of buying players ..
should conc on developing youth players… look at barcelona, there academy graduates are doing what… look at arsenal these two clubs has best youth academy in world…
ican’t undersnd why chelsea keep on spending that much… they should cut there losses in order to meet uefa financial rule instead…

I believe that Chelsea defence is ok with Azpi, Evanovic, Luiz, Terry, Cahil, Betrand and A Cole as ferera is aged. Where we need players are in defensive midfield where Mikel is alone and attack where Torres is alone.
