Over the summer Chelsea were chasing numerous players and one in particular almost signed, but because a fee could not be agreed Alvaro Pereira remained in Portugal with Porto.
Even after the transfer window closed the links remained strong and it was thought that Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas would try again in January for the experienced Uruguay International.
It appears as though that interest will now be curtailed because Pereira has now signed a new long term contract with Porto which will keep him at the club until 2016.
Villas-Boas has long been an admirer of Pereira who was a integral part of the Porto squad last season that swept away all before them helping them to the League title, the two domestic cups and the Europa League.
Just because he has signed a new contract does not mean that AVB is still not interested, he may well be, but if he is he will have to come up with a significant sum of money to lure Porto to sell. We may well be better off turning our attentions elsewhere once the transfer window opens, but with another long term target in Luka Modric now settled at Spurs who are the most likely players to come in?
It does not matter if he signed a new contract cos if Chelsea need him he will sign for chelsea.
