If you believe reports from France today, Chelsea will soon announce that they have completed the signing of Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid after agreeing to play the player’s release clause which is said to be €60 million.
Signed for £24 million from Real Sociedad last summer, Griezmann has enjoyed a stellar season with Atletic. In 35 La liga games this season, he has scored 22 goals and assisted once. This performance has attracted interest from Chelsea who has constantly been linked with the player in the last three weeks.
Jose Mourinho is reportedly impressed with the reports that has been sent back to him by Chelsea scouts and has gotten Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to sanction a move of €60 million for the Frenchaman. Should he sign for Chelsea, he will not only be a reliable backup for Diego Costa once his normal injury problems surfaces but as well as play alongside the Spaniard whenever Jose Mourinho feels the need.
According to the reports, Chelsea will likely announce the signing of the Frenchman in days and should this be the case, it will be Chelsea’s second signing of the summer after the club completed the signing of Brazilian youngster Nathan in a deal said to be worth £4.5 million.
Aside Griezmann, Chelsea are also reportedly interested in Diego Godin and Koke.
