£15 million is up for grabs by Real Madrid for the signature of their player, Coentrao. Not bad business for a player who has only appeared 9 times in the League this season. The Portuguese has fallen in the pecking orders at the Bernabeu as the seasons went by. His most league appearances (20) was in his debut season back in 2011 when his countryman, Mourinho was in charge at the Bernabeu. Mourinho brought him in from Benfica, and he still admires his fellow Portuguese and is making plans to reunite him with himself at the Stamford bridge by next summer.
Chelsea is in need of a new left back, as the only signing made for the position hasn’t been able to adopt to life in the EPL. Filipe Luis is headed back to Atletico Madrid at the end of the season after a disappointing EPL debut where he could only manage 13 league appearances. Definitely poor and not befitting for a player who made 32 league appearances in his last two seasons with Atletico Madrid. As he departs, Chelsea plans to bring in Portugal international, Fabio Coentrao for around the same fee Filipe was acquired.
The pensioners are closing in on the deal and Coentrao will make a good addition to the team because of his versatility. The left back can also play as a left winger, as a defensive midfielder, and right back (Jack of all trades right?). Regaining the left-back spot from Marcelo seems impossible at Real Madrid, and he will be keen to get fresh competition for more playing time in Chelsea, and also come under the tutelage of the special one who has the ability to bring out the best in him once again, like he did back in Spain. The 48-time capped Portugal international will also serve as great substitute for Cesar Azpilicueta in case of the Spaniard’s unavailability.
