Chelsea to save Real Madrid star from Primera Liga exile

Chelsea are rumoured to be keen on saving Ex-Spurs midfielder Luka Modric, who has been out-of-favour at Real Madrid.

Modric was recently given the unfortunate title of worst Spanish signing of the season, by Spanish daily newspaper Marca who asked readers to vote for the best and worst signings this season. Barcelona’s Jordi Alba was voted best signing.

Modric narrowly beat Alex song to the fore, who joined Barcelona from Arsenal over the summer. The Croatian has played 22 games in all competitions since his move over the summer, 9 of which he made from the bench.

The £33Million signing is reportedly keen to escape this nightmare, and is actively seeking a move back to the Premier League. Real have yet to declare their stance on the player’s availability, with Tottenham, Chelsea and both Manchester clubs keeping a close-eye on the situation.

Chelsea are seeking a long-term replacement for Frank Lampard, who the Blues are allowing to leave at the end of his contract, which runs out next summer. The 34 year-old has been in fine form of late, yet Roman Abramovich seems to have made up his mind regardless.

Chelsea were keen admirers of the Croatian from his time at London rivals Spurs, and will be hoping to sign the player for around £24Million, leaving Madrid with a £9Million loss in 5 months.

I think Modric is a quality player, but I would rather see a strong midfielder join our forces. We already have Juan Mata and Eden Hazard as very similar players to the Croatian, and I believe Willian or Fellaini would add that bit more to our great club.
