Chelsea To Set To Pay £20m To Sign South American – Not Falcao

Jose-mourinhoChelsea are reportedly still in the mix as regards the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Douglas Costa. The 25-year old player has set his sights on a move away from Ukraine with Chelsea keen on signing him .

The Blues almost signed the midfielder in the last winter window and are ready to try again as they strengthen title-winning squad that fell short in Europe elite competition -“the Uefa Champions League ” Jose Mourinho will relaunch his attempts to sign Brazilian midfielder Douglas Costa with a £20million bid.

Chelsea boss Mourinho was keen in January and is ready to revive his interest in the summer – as long as there are assurances over the Shakhtar Donetsk star Costa’s fitness. Mourinho is a big admirer of the 24-year-old but while Chelsea signed Juan Cuadrado from Fiorentina in the winter window, they could not get the Costa deal done in time.

Their interest is still there and they are back in the hunt for Costa, who is keen on a move to the Premier League with a Champions League club. All the same, there is an interesting assertion as to why Chelsea needs to sign him this summer -‘ He can also play as a striker ‘

We could qualify that as versatility at its peak, having a player as Douglas Costa to play as a midfielder and as well deputize as a striker when called upon will seem magical and a very good buy as well. If the move does go through, Chelsea would be adding another world-class attacking midfielder to the roster who can as well play as a striker, giving Jose Mourinho different options in the attacking department of his team.

While he wouldn’t be the main threat in the midfield like he is at Donetsk, having the like of Douglas coming off the bench and pulling strings in both midfield and striking positions will indeed be relishing as Mourinho can use him as a striker when his namesake Diego Costa isn’t available for selection .

Another Costa could certainly make a huge splash at Chelsea. Diego Costa, another Brazilian, made light work of his first season in the Premier League, having raced to the top of the scoring charts with 18 goals in 22 appearances for the Blues. This Costa has put on quite the show in Ukraine with his pace,,versatility and skill on the ball. He can be played up front as well but he could surely unlock a defense or get in behind to score goals.
