Chelsea Transfer Target Looks Likely To Stay In Italy

Andre Villas-Boas has been searching for a tough tackling midfielder to replace Michael Essien since he became injured back in pre-season. One target was thought to be Daniele De Rossi, but according to reports today he is about to sign a new contract with his club Roma.

De Rossi, 28, has spent his entire career at Roma and amassed over 360 games for the club, and he has a fan in Andre Villas-Boas who has been motoring his contract situation, though ultimately it looks as if AVB could be left disappointed by today’s news.

Speaking to the Italian media De Rossi said, “We have discussed the issue in recent weeks and I am sure we will find a good solution for everyone. I will not put pressure on Roma. I never said I would sign for another club and that’s true – that would not be just, considering I get on with those in charge.”

So it looks like De Rossi is staying put, but Chelsea could of course make a move in January if talks break down, but should they retain their interest they will have to fight off the advances of Manchester City, who have also expressed a willingness to get De Rossi.

If Chelsea made a move for him he would be available for a relatively reasonable price of £8-10million. What do you think guys is De Rossi a player you would like to see at Stamford Bridge in the near future?
