Chelsea win an Oscar

Despite Roberto Di Matteo playing down the rumours, Brazilian midfield star Oscar will soon be a Chelsea player, according to the Daily Mail. The 20-year old playmaker from Internacional arrived in London yesterday as part of the Brazil football squad for the London 2012 Olympics.

Oscar was taken straight from the airport to undergo his Chelsea medical and was then driven to rejoin the Brazilian athletes. Chelsea and Internacional have agreed a fee or around £25 million for the player who can play anywhere in midfield or as a support striker. The fee is about halfway between what Chelsea originally offered and what Internacional were requesting.

Di Matteo refused to confirm the deal to reporters, saying “I know there is speculation that we are interested in this player and, in due course, if there is anything to announce we will do.”

Oscar will be Chelsea’s third signing of the summer after the capture of Eden Hazard and Marko Marin and will take the expenditure to £63 million. Roman Abramovich may not stop there, however, with Oscar’s Brazilian team mate Hulk also on the Chelsea wish list.

Nothing has been agreed with Hulk’s club Porto yet so we will probably have to wait until the Olympics are over to know any more. The Daily Mail reports that Tottenham will try to sign Hulk and hope to persuade him that he would be better off at White Hart Lane. Good luck Spurs, you will need it.
