Chelsea's Daniel Sturridge set for Liverpool medical

Reports suggest that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has come to an agreement with Daniel Sturridge’s agents, after a reported rift over agent fees, according to the Daily Mail.

The striker was set to travel to Anfield on Thursday to participate in a medical, but the problem over fees stopped that from happening.

Sturridge has been plagued by injury since the summer, and has failed to make an impact at Chelsea this season, starting only 1 Premier League game. The striker is now expected to confirm his January move to the Merseyside club for £12M-£15M in the next 48 hours.

Rodgers had put Sturridge at the top of his list of targets since the last transfer window closed, having failed on a deadline day loan move for the England international.

Liverpool failed to sign any strikers as back-up to Luis Suarez on deadline day, after allowing Andy Carroll to leave on loan to West Ham. That left Liverpool with no senior alternative to the Uruguayan, forcing them to experiment with Jonjo Shelvey playing as a ‘fake no. 9’.

Sturridge has been a good servant to the club since signing from Man City, and I’m not exactly pleased with his exit. He showed great promise last season, and I had hoped he would make an even bigger impact this season. His injury problems in the past year probably make his sale the right move, as a consistently injured player is no use to the team. Good luck Danny boy, but you know you won’t win anything big at Liverpool right?
