Chelsea's Michael Essien is back

Michael Essien has cut his loan spell with Real Madrid short because he has suffered a mysterious injury.

The Chelsea midfielder has been out of action since November 11 and has returned to London to undergo treatment from the Chelsea medical staff.

The Ghana midfielder and Jose Mourinho discussed his options, and decided a return to Stamford Bridge would suit Michael best.

Various contrasting reports about Essien’s injury are coming out of Spain, from a recurrence of a previous injury, to an allergic reaction to a drug.

“Essien is not injured but is suffering from an allergic reaction to a drug”, Aitor Karanka, Real Madrid assistant coach told reporters.

It is currently unknown if the Ghanaian would be allowed to return to Madrid if he recovers, or whether he is now a part of the Chelsea squad.

Essien had been an important part of the Real Madrid squad, but it is yet to be seen if his injury will keep him from playing football this season.
