Chelsea has been cleared to sign Mats Hummels if they so wish. The Borussia Dortmund captain has been linked to Chelsea in the last few weeks as a replacement for John Terry in Chelsea’s first team next season. According to the reports, Jose Mourinho secretly accept John Terry may not be able to replicate the good season he has had again next season and as much he wants in another defender.

Mats Hummels, Varane and other central defenders has been linked to Chelsea. However, Chelsea’s pusuit of Hummels has been given a big boost by Dortmund’s CEO executive Hans Joachim Watzke. Hans Joachim Watzke was quoted to have said;

“There will be no major overhaul. Last year one player left [Robert Lewandowski who joined Bayern Munich], this year it is probably two,”

“Everything else is still open. So yes, there will be change but not a complete overhaul of the team. As for any of the other cases, I will not talk about names.”

Although he has not mentioned any name but anyone who didn’t start watching football last night knows Hummels is very likely to leave the club having been linked to Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United. Manchester United are reportedly keener than Chelsea and rightly so especially as Chelsea’s need is a long term one.

However, it would make a lot of sense if Chelsea can sign the German. With John Terry not getting younger, it would make perfect sense to have Hummels in the team. In my opinion, Terry only has one more season in him and I sincerely think both will get game time next season if Hummels is bought as Chelsea should be competing competitively on a four fronts next season.
