Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has confirmed that the club are currently locked in talks to sign Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma. The Serie A side are reportedly poised to sign the player for 15m but ‘if’ Chelsea were to decline their bid, then they might just push for a loan move instead.
Ferrero told the local media: “We’ve already signed Moisander from Ajax, and now we are trying to agree deal with Chelsea. Zouma is a great player.”
Kurt Zouma signed for Chelsea from St. Etienne on the final day of the January 2014 transfer window but remained on loan at the French club for the rest of the season.
The 19-year-old central defender joined Chelsea on a five-and-a-half year contract and is a 6ft 2in French Under-21 international. While the centre of defence is where he’s most comfortable, Zouma can also play right-back.
He held down a regular place in the St.Etienne side during the second half of the season and turned in some accomplished displays for a player of such a young age,
making 12 appearances since his transfer.
He began his time at Chelsea by joining his new colleagues for the first day of pre-season training . He took the number five shirt. Zouma scored his first goal for Chelsea in a pre-season friendly against Olimpija Ljuljana, the winner in a 2-1 win.
