The summer transfer window comes with its share of temptation. Players break the hearts of fans, clubs let go of players committed to them, money talks. Or in some cases loyalty prevails. It is the case of loyalty over everything this time around when Chelsea target, Valencia’s Jose Gaya decides to choose his boyhood club over a move to the EPL winners. The 19 year-old Spanish under-21 international went ahead to sign a 5-year deal that will keep him with the Mestalla until 2020, the delighted Gaya commented,

“I am very happy and proud to extend my deal with Valencia. It’s what I wanted from the beginning and in the end things have turned out as both parties wanted. We’ve both emerged as winners from this and it is another dream come true. It was very exciting to debut in the Primera Division with Valencia, and now I have signed on for five more years.

“I want to thank the club for this renewal”

He went further to say ahead of the Real Madrid match,

“May 25th is my birthday and what better gift possible. Now we play against Real Madrid which is always difficult, but we have our weapons and we will win.”

This will be coming as a huge blow to Chelsea, who had the left-back on their wish list towards summer. Coach Mourinho had seen him as a perfect replacement for Filipe Luiz, and option to Cesar Azpilicueta. With his contract extension came an increase in buyout clause. Provided the Blues still want him before 2020, they will have to depart with a whopping 36.3 million pounds as opposed to the earlier 13 million. Gaya has been impressive in his debut  season for the Los Che, appearing 34 times and scoring twice. The exploits of the yet-to-be-capped Spain international, who is also a product of the club’s academy has kept the team on 4th position in the La Liga Log.

As things are, Chelsea will have to look elsewhere for a replacement left back.
