Remember Kevin De Bruyne? Yes, the same player Chelsea sold to Wolfsburg last summer in a deal said to be worth £18 million. He is on his way back to the premier league according to various reports in the German and English media. According to the reporrs, Chelsea are keen on re-signing the player after his heroics so far this season with the second placed bundesliga side.
However, it is not Chelsea alone that is interested in signing the player. Bayern Munich are reportedly targeting him like they always do every big player in the Bundesliga thats not already a Bayern player. Manchester United and Manchester City are also said to be closely watching the player. As a matter of fact, Chelsea are said to have help talks with the player’s agent.
This much was confirmed by the player’s agent; “For the moment, there are no formal discussions,” Patrick De Koster is quoted as saying by The Guardian. “Of course in the next few weeks I will be going around the world to talk about the situation with Kevin but this is just informal information.
“I will talk to everybody but Kevin is very, very happy with Wolfsburg and the way they have treated him since he arrived from Chelsea last year. There are still five games to play and hopefully they can make sure of a place in the Champions League next season, so it is a little bit too early to be making any decisions. He has a four-year contract at Wolfsburg, so we will have to see what they want to do.
“I have met the people from Manchester City and we know each other,” he added. “I’ve never spoken to anyone from Manchester United but a lot of other clubs have been in touch to find out some general information.
“I think with the season Kevin has had, if we didn’t have these questions then there would be something wrong. I saw [Mino] Raiola’s quotes about taking 20 phone calls a day regarding Paul Pogba and it’s the same situation for me and probably for the agent of Memphis Depay at the moment.
“I don’t know. Wolfsburg paid 24 million euros to Chelsea so I can see it being a lot more than that.”
With City seemingly ahead of every other club in the case for the signature of the Belgian, I still believe Chelsea has a strong chance of getting him. The fact that he was once a Chelsea player is a big plus. With uncertainty hanging on the heads of Oscar, Willian and Ramires, Chelsea will do well to re-sign the player. Although he didn’t do well in his first stint ( mainly because he was not given enough chances ), I still believe he is a very good player and the time he spent in Germany seems to have made him more matured than he was when he first joined Chelsea.
