Corinthians beat Chelsea – The best team won…

Corinthians just beat Chelsea 1-0 in the World Club Cup, and are now World Club Champions.

Chelsea looked the better team in the first-half, but failed to get on the score-sheet. Corinthians kept it tight in midfield and didn’t allow Chelsea to play their game.

Corinthians broke the deadlock half-way through the second half, when Cahill blocks a shot, with the ball bouncing up and over Cech for Guerrero to head in.

Fernando Torres was a shadow of the player who had scored in his past three games, missing a host of chances, hardly even challenging the Corinthians keeper.

In the last 5 minutes, Torres had the ball fall to his feet in front of the goal, for Nando to shoot straight at the keeper. This was the most clear-cut chance of the game. He then scored a header on 90 minutes, only for it to be correctly ruled out for offside.

Juan Mata was kept considerably quiet, a job well done by Paulinho and Emerson. Mata was short of room around the box, being closed down constantly when given the ball.

Victor Moses was particularly poor in my opinion. The ball was given to Moses out wide on various occasions, for the Nigerian to lose the ball. He was poor with the ball at his feet, and poor with the ball.

In the World Club Cup, three players are given trophies for their performances in the final. Chelsea’s David Luiz was given the Silver Award, for his great performance in today’s game. He was dominant up and down the field. He was quick to find his passing shoes, and used his strength perfectly to rule Corinthians out of the game for the majority. The Gold Award was given to Corinthians goalkeeper Cassio.

The Chelsea team seemed to lack the cutting edge up front, and seem to be running out of idea’s. I am reminded of the Chelsea team who were losing consistently 4 games ago. This is sad times for us Chelsea fans.

Corinthians were a joke. They were rolling around on the floor, constantly trying to influence the referee. Eventually they got the referee to send Gary Cahill off very late on, what actually happened to earn that red is yet to be seen.

I was very disappointed with their sportsmanship, but regardless of that, they played a very good game. They closed down Chelsea constantly, not allowing any room for our boys to work in.

Personally Rafa got his selections all wrong. Mikel Or Luiz should have played, with either Lampard or Ramires. The majority of games are won in this area, and Ramires and Franky are much too attacking minded to play together in that role.

I agree that Benitez should have rotated players for this trip, but why not play Moses in the semi-final, with Oscar, Hazard and Mata playing the final? Why would you want to weaken your attacking threat for the final?

Why did dat coach dat called him self Benitez will b keeping Mikel on bench and using luiz to play 4. He would have use luiz and cahill and he will use Mikel in defence Midfiled and Lampard.

You spoke my mind. Bad team selection and substitution by Benitez. Why not start mikel when we all know he won’t play anymore games for us before the afcon. A simple repeat of thursday’s team would have done it
