Courtois’ Dilemma As Real Madrid Lurks In the Corner

Chelsea’s goalkeeper Courtois, who is on loan to Atletico Madrid, is facing some difficult transfer dilemma following rumours of interest in his services by Real Madrid.

Courtois, who has been in fine form since joining Atletico on loan, has been subject of various transfer rumours including a swap deal between his parent club Chelsea and his current loan club.

Having impressed in his third season at the Spanish club, the player is not sure where his season lies. With current Chelsea number one goalkeeper, Petr Cech still holding firm to his shirt, the player appears to be confused about what to make of his future. Current manager, Jose Mourinho seems pleased with the services of the Czechs international goalkeeper, which makes Courtois situation more difficult.

Diego Simeone has however, not hidden his determination to sign the young Belgian goalkeeper on permanent bases based on his form these past seasons. Aside from Real Madrid, and Atletico, another major club that has shown interest in signing the 21 year old goalkeeper is Barcelona.

In an interview the 21 year old safe pair of gloves granted Spanish Newspaper AS, Courtois explained thus:

“I do not want to rush and make a bad decision.”

“We must still think about it. It is difficult with so many interested parties, plus it’s not the only time to think about my future,”

“I belong to Chelsea, I have a contract, and I do not have to rush to make a decision,” the goalkeeper said.

The 21 year old however, denied knowing anything about the rumour surrounding the interest of Real Madrid:

“I’ve never heard of that – those are rumours. If someone in Europe wants to sign me they have to speak with Chelsea and the English club will decide what to do.”

I am not sure what to make of all these rumours, especially as current number one, Petr Cech is not expected to remain with the club forever, and is likely to retire or move ahead sometime in the future. The question is; what is wrong in having him remain at Atletico for another season to continue his development?
